The Latin American grid profile is unique; it features some of the world’s highest percentages of renewable generation, driven heavily by regional hydroelectricity and expanding wind farms. The hurdle is distribution and local access.

Green ICANN will be addressing this by investing heavily in grid transitions and rural nodes. By supporting and greening local IXPs (Internet Exchange Points—the physical facilities where local internet providers exchange traffic), the organization will ensure data routing stays local. This reduces latency while anchoring the physical architecture directly to native, highly renewable hydro and wind corridors.
