Europe is a global frontrunner in environmental policy, which makes it the ideal testing ground for a circular hardware economy. Electronic waste (e-waste) from rapidly decommissioned servers is an industry-wide crisis.
The Circular Goal: Ensure that no registry hardware ends up in a landfill, while actively capturing structural byproducts like server heat.
In Europe, registry hardware lifecycles are being systematically mapped to strict European e-waste regulations. Furthermore, Green ICANN will be pioneering data center designs that directly plug into municipal district heating networks—literally using the heat from the Domain Name System (DNS) to warm local homes.
